John Adkins - Artist

John J Adkins, Jr

I received a BA in Pharmacy at Auburn University in 1976. After college, I
began taking art classes at every opportunity.
In 1992, I took a week long workshop in Taos, NM at the Fechin Institute’s
Branham Ranch with Jim Wilcox teaching En Plein Air. That was the
beginning of my current interest in Plein Air painting! Since that time, I have
studied with many of the country’s best known Plein Air artists. Among
them, Jim Wilcox, Roger Dale Brown, John Potoschink, Kim English, Matt
Smith, Kevin Mac Pherson, Kenn Backhaus, Tom Browning, Sherri
McGraw, Jeri Carter, Perry Austin, and Albert Handell, to name a few. In
1999, I laid the groundwork and was President of the Plein Air Artists of
Alabama (PAAA) for 10 years, the first Plein Air group in the State of
Alabama.

I paint for the joy of painting and the process. In my career as a pharmacist as with my life as an artist, it's the process of creating and completing the task that gives me this joy.
