Recently the artists had an opportunity to spend the day painting at Amazing Graze Farm, a peaceful working farm with cows and sheep in Maryville, Tennessee.
With easels set up in the pasture and the quiet rhythm of the countryside and mountains all around, the day offered a perfect chance to paint directly from life.

Painting outdoors - often called plein air painting - allows artists to capture light, atmosphere, and movement that can't always be recreated later in the studio.
At Amazing Graze Farm the rolling fields and mountain, and curious sheep made for constant inspiration.

Of course, the real personalities of the day were the sheep themselves.
Some grazed quietly in the fields while others wandered close to inspect the easels and watch the paintings come to life.

By the end of the day several painting had begun to take shape, inspired by the peaceful setting and the character of the farm.
